Silica particles, Paramagnetic and Streptavidin-modified (SiO2-MAG-SA)
Our monodisperse streptavidin-functionalized magnetic silica particles (SiO2-MAG-SA) are prepared by a new strategy developed by microParticles GmbH. The new process involves a modified sol-gel method to prepare monodisperse nanoporous silica particles, incorporation of iron oxide nanoparticles into the nanoporous matrix structure, microencapsulation as well as chemical and biochemical surface functionalization (streptavidin). Through this strategy, excellent magnetic silica particles with high monodispersity (CV < 5 %), spherical shape, high magnetic response, high colloidal stability as well as high binding capacity for biotinylated ligands can be achieved. At the moment, streptavidin coated magnetic silica particles are available with a diameter of nominal 3 µm and 5 µm. They can be used in a variety of applications like cell separation, nucleic acid isolation, biomolecule purification, and particle-based immunoassays. Streptavidin-coated magnetic silica particles are supplied as a 1 % w/v aqueous suspensions.
