Silica particles, Paramagnetic and Carboxyl-functionalized (SiO2-MAG-COOH)
Our monodisperse carboxyl-functionalized magnetic silica particles (SiO2-MAG-COOH) are prepared by a new strategy developed by microParticles GmbH. The new process combines a modified sol-gel method to prepare monodisperse nanoporous silica particles with the incorporation of iron oxide nanoparticles into the nanoporous matrix structure, microencapsulation using special polymers, and chemical surface functionalization. Through this strategy, excellent magnetic silica particles with high monodispersity (CV < 5 %), spherical shape, high magnetic response, high colloidal stability as well as high binding capacity for a lot of bioligands (proteins, antibodies, enzymes etc) can be realized. At the moment, carboxylated magnetic silica particles are available with a diameter of nominal 3 µm and 5 µm. They can be delivered as a 5 % w/v aqueous suspension. Prospective fields for their application are cell separation, nucleic acid isolation, biomolecule purification, and particle-based immunoassays.
