Polystyrene particles, Superparamagnetic, Fluorescent and Carboxyl-functionalized (PS-MAG-Fluo-COOH)
Our superparamagnetic fluorescent and carboxyl-functionalized polystyrene particles (PS-MAG-Fluo-COOH) are prepared by a multistep process, including embedding of magnetic iron oxide nanoclusters in monodisperse cross-linked poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) particles, coating with a special polymer, incorporating one or more fluorophores into the polymer shell, and functionalizing the surface with carboxylic groups or other chemical functionalities. On this basis, multifunctional magnetic polystyrene particles with high monodispersity (CV < 5%), high saturation magnetization, strong fluorescence, high colloidal stability, and high binding of bioligands can be achieved. At the moment, microParticles GmbH offers these products in a range of discrete sizes from 1 µm to 10 µm in 6 different sizes as 1 % w/v aqueous suspensions. They can be used in a variety of applications like cell separation, nucleic acid isolation, biomolecule purification, and particle-based immunoassays.
